Booked a sojourn to the Greek Islands, table for Andalucían tapas or heading off to the Argentinian pampas?
Greek-born Andreas Moutsioulis brought a flavour of each to the Holywell Music Room in Oxford in late March.
He performed his solo classical guitar repertoire to a small but warm-hearted and favourable audience with some standard yet atmospherically performed fare – Rodrigo’s Adagio from Concierto de Aranjuez, adapted with Andreas’ own translation; Albeniz’s Sevilla; and Piazzolla’s Libertango. These were interspersed with some songs by Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis and the Italian Carlo Domeniconi’s Koyunbaba suite, op. 19.
The lighting could have been more ambient and room temperature could have just been warmer but it didn’t detract from the performance, at just over an hour.
